Are Prosperity and Posterity High on Your List?
What Is It You Really Want from Your Art Career?
I believe most artists want to enjoy prosperity. They would like their art to be successful and sell well. I also know they want their art to be a gift to the future. An artifact that generations yet to come will cherish.
It is an unmitigated shame that some artists believe they cannot have both prosperity and posterity. They have the mistaken notion if they choose to make art with a commercial appeal it will somehow diminish or destroy its credibility or authenticity.
This is such a negative choice when they could just as easily see the positive side of having a successful career where one is well respected in every circle. Myopic vision about what a career can be is as debilitating and damaging as other maladies. In this case, what make it bad is it is self-induced, even if unintentional.
Making prosperity a reality is a test.
It tests an artist’s ability to tap into the culture in ways that make buyers respond. It further tests an artist’s ability to not only tie into the current culture but to create a marketing plan that creates awareness for their work.
These are not insurmountable challenges.
I believe attitude significantly affects altitude. Put another way; perspective drives prosperity. And, posterity, or the longevity of one’s art, most often has a direct connection to prosperity. Commercial success, where one’s art is in demand, is most often what elevates art’s value as something to be prized.
Inarguably, the single most important component of attitude is in being positive, or having what Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Stone called PMA, which is the acronym for Positive Mental Attitude. They co-wrote the seminal bestseller, Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude. This book is full of powerful ideas that can help anyone improve their attitude.
Here are but three of countless potent quotes from the book.
There is very little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference! The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.
Every adversity has the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.
A Magnificent Obsession will conquer despite the obstacles that stand in its way!
I believe in you.
I believe you can achieve the success you want to have. I know you can enrich and enhance your life through the application of PMA. I have some gifts for you.

Let me give you one last quote from Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude.
You are what you think. But what do you think? How orderly are your thought processes? How straight is your thinking?
Thinking straight is a talent.
Just as some can run fast, play a musical instrument with never having lessons, or solve math problems with ease, thinking straight comes easier to some than others.
It’s not a sign of weakness if thinking straight does not come easily to you. It is only a weakness if you are aware of this in your life and you fail to get some help to improve on it.
I’m not talking getting therapy, although I have seen many cases where friends and colleagues have made great strides in their lives by working with a psychologist or other mental health professional.
Get help, it’s widely available.
In some cases, it’s a matter of joining a mastermind group or finding and working with an accountability partner. It might be all you need is to read some books or listen to audio such as the ones I’ve mentioned here. The bottom line is just do something.
The doing is the most important thing. There never is a perfect time. Look for ways to improve your attitude, to be more positive. Stop yourself from the automatic reactions you have ingrained in yourself. Pause to think is the best course? Is this the right reaction? Is there another way to look at this?
Choose Wisely. It’s Your Prerogative!
You may not get to choose your circumstances, but you always get to choose your reaction to them. Expect the best so you can capitalize on it when it happens. Take the time to assess what is the worst that can happen and how you will react in advance. Doing those things prepares you to have the best reaction and best outcome regardless of what happens to you in your life. That’s a big part of having a sustained positive attitude.
