If you are an artist, photographer, or work in a solo entrepreneur creative field, I am here to help you create a successful, prosperous career. My name is Barney Davey, and I am here to help you.
You can use my advice to grow your career through my books, blog posts, workshops, online training, consulting and more.
I began advising artists 1988 when I joined Decor magazine and the Decor Expo tradeshows as a marketing executive. Both were influential, important art business leaders in their time.
Decor was in business helping artists, galleries and picture framers for more than 135 years. At its peak, the Decor Expo Atlanta Show was ranked in the top 100 among more than 10,000 annual tradeshows produced in the U.S.
During my career, I attended more than 200 art tradeshows, where I got to know and observe the marketing practices of the industry’s most successful artists and publishers. In the past three decades, I have drawn on my experiences and and marketing savvy to help thousands of artists learn new ways to find collectors, sell more art and operate a profitable business.
I am the author of five bestselling art marketing books:
- Guerrilla Marketing for Artists: How 100 Collectors Can Bulletproof Your Career
- How to Sell Art to Interior Designers
- The Zen of Selling Art
- How to Profit from the Art Print Market
- How to Price Digital Fine Art Prints
I have produced and delivered hundreds of live workshops and online webinars for artists on art marketing.
My articles have been published in Art World News, Art Business News and The Artist’s Magazine. My How to Profit from the Art Print Market book was featured in the North Light Book Club. It is the book club for F+W Media, the parent company of The Artist’s Magazine.
I have been featured in, written for or worked with these industry leading media companies, and more.

Gaining Clarity on My Purpose
It took me forever to discover my purpose. Learning I am an ENFP on the 16personalities.com website gave me clarity on why it was such a long strange trip to get where I belong. Among my many careers and jobs, I’ve been an advertising executive, serial entrepreneur, fireman, soldier, Teamster, insurance agent, and steel mill worker.
Unique Background Pays Off for Artists & Photographers.
My Art Marketing Wisdom Comes out of My Experiences.
I have been blessed with the good fortune to work with the industry’s leading art business magazines and trade shows, and media properties. Those experiences gave me a treasure trove of insider knowledge. I put those first hand observations on what the most successful artists do to succeed to work for you. It is my mission to help visual artists and fine art photographers benefit from that wisdom. Your success is my success.
Working nearly 20 years in the magazine publishing and trade show business changed my life. I learned so much by repping trade publications in a wide range of businesses. However, it was my work with Decor magazine and Decor Expo tradeshows, where I began advising artists, photographers, and fine art publishers about marketing strategies, that shaped my future. It led to a second career writing books and blogs, creating workshops and advising artists, which is what I have done since 2005.
A Path to a Rewarding Career.
My work with artists, photographers and fine art print publishers on plans to grow their businesses gave me experiences that lit a path to my future. With the collective knowledge, wisdom and inspiration I gained, I created a business model based on purpose, passion and prosperity. My mission is to share my secrets and wisdom with you so you can create a fantastic, rewarding career.
The Art Marketing Mastery Workshop is the culmination of nearly 30 years experience advising artists. My goal at this stage of my career is to use my experience and knowledge to help as many visual artists and photographers succeed in their careers as possible.
I believe artists can take control of their careers if they set attainable goals (with a stretch), stay focused and apply the tools and techniques they learn from me. I don’t offer flash in the pan “Start Making $10,000 a Month in 60 Days” deals. Artists get substance, practical advice, and solid solutions they can use to build a sustainable lifetime career from me. If you are willing to put in the work, we can work together to put your career on firm ground and growing.
My Motivation | Your Success | Intertwined.
Besides my lengthy, extensive art marketing experience, what sets me apart is my passion for helping artists. My mother was an exceptional artist. Her work hung for a time in the St. Louis Art Museum. Under the right conditions, she could have had a great career as a visual artist. She gave me a deep, abiding love of art and artists.
Unfortunately, life got in the way. That happens when you are widowed with six kids ranging from eight to eighteen. She never had the chance for an art career. So besides being excellent at what I do, I am motivated in part to help artists because of her.
You see, I feel every artist I assist in some way is a nod to her. It is my way to acknowledge her talent, and in some small way thank her for the sacrifices she made so her kids could have a better life than she did — and for instilling in me a passionate appreciation of fine arts.
Those who know me know I don’t blow smoke. I don’t make crazy claims. I just offer the most solid, usable, practical ideas, information and inspiration I can. I have no doubts if artists get off their duff and act on what they learn from me that the sky is the limit for them.
I don’t promise instant results. I promise to give you a system you can use now. It is the same one you can use in 20 years to find your best prospects, connect with them and create a steady stream of active communication so they stay interested in you and your work.
If you want to create a lasting career, I will show you how to do it. You bring a willingness to work and desire to succeed along with your talent for making art, I will bring knowledge and wisdom to help you market your art. Together, we’ll make your career what you want it to be.
