I’ve published the free weekly Art Marketing News blog since 2005. I have a worldwide community of artists who I help in the Art Marketing Toolkit Project, and my Older Artists Facebook group shares and celebrates art and aging with gratitude. 

Over the past 30 years, I have helped thousands of artists who have sought my advice for new ways to boost their careers. They trust my books, blog posts, workshops, online training, and consulting to help them get ahead.

Decades of marketing of experience.

I began advising artists in 1988 when I joined Decor magazine and the Decor Expo trade shows as a marketing executive. The shows and magazines were most influential in the retail art business in their time.

Before its demise due to the internet, for 135 years, Decor was in the business of helping artists, fine art galleries, and picture framers excel at marketing. At its peak, the Decor Expo Atlanta Show was ranked in the top 100 among more than 10,000 annual tradeshows produced in the U.S.

As a result of my extensive business experience and attendance at more than 200 art tradeshows, I got to know many of the industry’s most successful artists. I’ve had the unique chance to observe the marketing practices of top artists for years.

Besides my long, extensive art marketing experience, what sets me apart is my passion for helping artists. My mother was an exceptional artist. Her work hung for a time in the St. Louis Art Museum. Under the right conditions, she could have had a great career as a visual artist. She gave me a deep, abiding love of art and artists.

Unfortunately, life got in the way. That is what happens when you are widowed with six kids ranging from eight to eighteen. She never had the chance for an art career. So besides being excellent at what I do, I am motivated to help artists because of her.

You see, I feel every artist I assist in some way is a nod to my mother. It is my way to acknowledge her talent, and in some small way, thank her for the sacrifices she made so her kids could have a better life than she did — and for instilling in me a passionate appreciation of fine arts.

Those who know me know I don’t blow smoke. I don’t make absurd claims. I offer the most robust, usable, practical ideas, information, and inspiration I can. I have no doubts if artists get off their duff and act on what they learn from me that the sky is the limit for them.

I don’t promise instant results. I promise to give you a system you can use now. It is the same one you can use in 20 years to find your best prospects, connect with them, and create a steady stream of effective communication, so they stay interested in you and your work.
