Hi! I’m Barney Davey. If you are an artist, photographer, or work as an entrepreneur creative field, I’m here to help you create a prosperous career.
Since 1988, thousands of artists have sought my advice for new ways to boost their careers. They trust my books, blog posts, workshops, online training, and consulting to help them get ahead.
I began advising artists in 1988 when I joined Decor magazine and the Decor Expo trade shows as a marketing executive. The shows and magazine were most influential in the retail art business in their time.
Before its demise due to the internet, for 135 years, Decor was in the business of helping artists, galleries, and picture framers. At its peak, the Decor Expo Atlanta Show was ranked in the top 100 among more than 10,000 annual tradeshows produced in the U.S.
As a result of my attendance at more than 200 art tradeshows, I got to know many of the industry’s most successful artists. Traveling to shows gave me a unique chance to observe their best marketing practices.
Now, I share my insights and experiences with thousands of artists. They use my knowledge and marketing savvy to find collectors, sell more art and operate a profitable business.
These books have an ongoing impact in the marketplace. Here is a recent screenshot from the Amazon Kindle top 1oo “Business of Art” list. It shows five of my books listed in the top 10 on the list all at once.
I have produced and delivered hundreds of live workshops and online webinars for artists on art marketing.
My articles have been published in Art World News, Art Business News, and The Artist’s Magazine. My How to Profit from the Art Print Market book was featured in the North Light Book Club. It is the book club for F+W Media, the parent company of The Artist’s Magazine.
I have been featured in, written for or worked with these industry leading media companies, and more.
You will find my growing catalog of online training for artists at MyMarketingCourses.com. Check out my Art Marketing News blog. It has more than 600 art business and marketing posts. Among art business blogs, it is ranked #1 by Art Business News.
The broadcasts have reached and helped many thousands of artists. They use them to sharpen their marketing skills and gain insights into best ways to get their work seen and sold.
My work with artists, photographers and fine art print publishers on plans to grow their businesses gave me experiences that lit a path to my future. I used the knowledge and wisdom I gained over decades to create a business model based on purpose, passion, and prosperity. My mission is to share my secrets and insights to help artists build rewarding careers.
My primary goal at this stage of my career is to use my experience and expertise to help as many visual artists and photographers succeed in their careers as possible. I believe artists can take control of their careers if they set attainable goals (with a stretch), stay focused and apply the tools and techniques they learn from me.
I don’t offer a flash in the pan “Start Making $10,000 a Month in 60 Days” deals. Artists get substance, practical advice, and reliable solutions they can use to build a sustainable lifetime career from me. If you are willing to put in the work, you can use my training to put your career on firm ground and to grow profitably.
Besides my long, extensive art marketing experience, what sets me apart is my passion for helping artists. My mother was an exceptional artist. Her work hung for a time in the St. Louis Art Museum. Under the right conditions, she could have had a great career as a visual artist. She gave me a deep, abiding love of art and artists.
Unfortunately, life got in the way. That happens when you are widowed with six kids ranging from eight to eighteen. She never had the chance for an art career. So besides being excellent at what I do, I am motivated in part to help artists because of her.
You see, I feel every artist I assist in some way is a nod to my mother. It is my way to acknowledge her talent, and in some small way thank her for the sacrifices she made so her kids could have a better life than she did — and for instilling in me a passionate appreciation of fine arts.
Those who know me know I don’t blow smoke. I don’t make absurd claims. I just offer the most robust, usable, practical ideas, information and inspiration I can. I have no doubts if artists get off their duff and act on what they learn from me that the sky is the limit for them.
I don’t promise instant results. I promise to give you a system you can use now. It is the same one you can use in 20 years to find your best prospects, connect with them and create a steady stream of effective communication, so they stay interested in you and your work.
If you want to create a lasting career, I will show you how to do it. You bring a willingness to work and desire to succeed along with your talent for making art; I will bring knowledge and wisdom to help you market your art. Together, we’ll make your career what you want it to be.
